and i will try to fix you

I always get nervous when new people move into the rent property next door.  Although, not for the typical reason you would think; my being scared to get to know someone new.  Actually, the older I get, the more I find that I'll pretty much talk to anyone, so it's not that I'm nervous about making new friends or acquaintances.  The issue I tend to have with my neighbors is the neglect I have to witness when they have animals for the mere sake of having them.  I cannot begin to describe how infuriated I get when they do this.  My anxiety was justified last night as I listened to one of their dogs bark and the other howl and cry all night because the owners tied them to trees in the back and then left for the night.  No food, no water, no shelter.  What the hell?  I'd hoped they would return with a late night load of belongings so that the dogs would ultimately be tended to.  No such luck.

I have some reservations about these dogs because they are both larger dogs and either part pit bull or full-blooded.  I have a small dog and will have to be extremely careful when taking her outside.  Looks can be deceiving because I assumed the darker fella was going to be aggressive when I took them water this morning but he was very friendly.  The other guy didn't know what to make of me and let me know he was not at all happy that I was in his space.  I know better than to approach dogs this way but I felt really sad that they might be in the heat all day without food or water.  So, I just did what I had to do.  I will never understand why people don't have more compassion for animals than they do.  When you take something in to care for it, the least you can do is actually care for it.

well, it's just as well you are who you are, and that there are people out there like you/us...who actually give a shit about the welfare of animals. sometimes i think i've seen it all when it comes to animal cruelty, and then i witness a new atrocity..and my anger/disgust at the human race is brought up again. yes, be careful D.. its not the dogs fault they are agressive mind you, but the ppl who breed them to this way. its never the animals fault as to his demeanor. but still... be careful. good luck, hope the neighbours aren't ferals. =P
And what is sad some people treat their own children like that too! I will never understand... Nobody really sees their mistreats until something death frightning or serious happens... and it's like...whoah!!! Slap in the face!! Assholes...
Oh, and thanx for the huggies and kissies!!! My tagboard is blushing!
Awwww.... That makes me so sad. Yay for you for being caring enough to take them water! It doesn't take long for animals to dehydrate in this heat. Someone should tie the owners to the tree and leave them overnight and all day in the heat. I don't like people like that... Kudos and *HUGS* to you, D!!
That totally sucks ass. Those people are ass people. I can't stand ass people. I know it's not a very neighborly thing to do, but if they constantly mistreat their dogs, I'd call the authorities to take some action. If they don't bother giving the dogs water, I can't even imagine the smell of dog poop in a month.
So, I thought I would comment again

A long time ago, I used to go to the annual Michigan Humane Society charity events. Stories told there would just make you crazy. The neglect and abuse.

Anyway, have you every seen that show Animal Cops or something on Discovery? I've seen a few that showed the Detroit area.
I've known people like that ... disgusting. I know one family who rescued a dog who was tied to a tree and the collar was actually growing into his skin it was so tight. Grrrrrr. Makes me so mad. To treat animals like that is just unconscionable! I hope those people wake up and treat the dogs better athough first impression seems to indicate they won't. =^( Bless you for taking them water. *hugs*
I have next-door neighbors like that right now! Really bugs me. They have other issues too, which only strengthen the argument that they should NOT have pets, but they just keep acquiring them. Good for you for taking the water!
We've had two properties sell in our area, and you know what your problem isn't a problem. We've never spoken. You must remember most people only bite when they are asked too :)
Ugh! I cannot stand people like that as well. I tend to be a major animal rights type person and everyone gets annoyed at me because if I see someone do something to an animal that I don't like..well..everyone is going to know about it. Those poor pups. I would try calling the local animal control. Maybe if they come out there and visit and "scare" the owners they will actually open their eyes as to what they are doing and provide the dogs with what they need. If not..I can always come over there and smack them :D
You must live on the other side of me. My neighbors are the same type of people. Left their dog locked inside for two straight days, with the other two locked outside (all this in the Florida heat, nobody to feed or water them), then comes home two days later, lets the dog outside with the other two, and leaves for another 36 hours straight. Hot days these days, and that one was no exception. Luckily we worked outside all weekend, so we gave them buckets of water through the day. That poor animal was eating the MUD that was around that bucket because she was so thirsty!!! Sweetheart of an american bulldog.... these are the same people of whom the "Puppy" story was blogged at Daily Thoughts. Terrible terrible terrible people. If you're going to bring in an animal, golly gee, wouldn't you imagine you'd give it the basic necessities?! Perhaps I'm just loaded with common sense, or too old fashioned. I feel for you girl.
Aw, those poor dogs. I hope they are okay.
